Hatha Yoga is a strong practice done for healing and purification. Hatha Yoga is what most people in the Western world associate with the word “Yoga” and is most commonly practiced for mental and physical health. The moment you attach the word “yoga,” it indicates it is a complete path by itself.

Hatha yoga is about creating a body which is not a hurdle in one’s life. The body becomes a stepping stone not a hurdle, not a roadblock in one’s progress of blossoming into his ultimate possibility.

Hatha yoga is not exercise. Understanding the mechanics of the body, creating a certain atmosphere, and then using body postures to drive your energy in specific directions is what hatha yoga or yogasanas are about. “Asana” means a “posture.” That kind of posture which allows you to reach your higher nature is a yogasanam.

In many studios, hatha classes are considered a gentler form of yoga. However, the Sanskrit term “hatha” actually refers to any yoga that teaches physical postures.

Practice hatha yoga:         

  It follows at yoga any way of place in practice to yoga. Because of my own passion for yoga, I wanted to see if I could help introduce African American women to it – and help them reap the considerable health benefits. Yoga has the potential to be a powerful tool in our community.

In most cities, especially during the warmer months, you can find many free yoga classes offered outdoors or at community centers during the week. Also, many yoga studios offer a free week or a free class to new students.

Yoga practice to at home:    

 If you’re worried about the difficulty of starting yoga or have any physical limitations, search the terms “gentle yoga” or “restorative yoga.” You’ll find many yoga routines that move at a slow, meditative pace, gradually opening up your joints and limbs through a slow series of poses. The Internet is a great resource for beginning yogis that is what we call people who do yoga. There are thousands of instructional videos posted online that you can try for free.

If at any time you are feeling pain, or just too overwhelmed by thoughts or physical sensations, lie down and rest. Yoga is a discipline of both the mind and body; taking time for mindfulness is just as important as the stretching and physical aspects of your practice  .
